This Privacy Policy sets forth the practices in effect at the Southern Poverty Law Center (the “SPLC”) to protect the privacy of website visitors to www.changetheterms.com, which is operated by the SPLC. This Policy also outlines how to manage your information, how to receive additional information about the SPLC’s privacy practices, and how information is collected by the SPLC and partners of the Change the Terms coalition.

Information the SPLC Collects
The SPLC collects information you provide directly through www.changetheterms.com. The SPLC also collects information through automated means. Both mechanisms are described in more detail below.

Information You Provide Directly
The SPLC asks for certain information when you visit the website www.changetheterms.com: Online form to ask questions – the SPLC asks you to provide your name and email address when you choose to use its online form to ask a question.Online petition(s) – the SPLC asks you to provide your name and email address when you choose to participate in an online petition.Online petition(s) additional information request – the SPLC asks for your permission to share your name and email address with the Change the Terms coalition partners so they may provide you with updates on the Change the Terms campaign and other campaigns. If you voluntarily provide information such as a first and last name and e-mail address through online forms, the SPLC will collect and retain this information, and also share this information with the following Change the Terms Coalition partners: Center for American Progress, Color of Change, Free Press, Lawyer’s Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and National Hispanic Media Coalition. The personal information you provide is used to establish the identity of account holders in order to respond to inquiries or to deliver requested information or services. For example, if you check the box granting permission to share your name and email address with coalition partners in order to receive updates on the campaign and information on other campaigns, the SPLC will store your name and e-mail address and send the requested updates and additional information to the e-mail address.

The SPLC does not make information gathered on its websites available to other organizations outside those listed previously as partners of the Change the Terms coalition, but may share information with business partners, in the usual course of business. For example, the SPLC may use a third-party vendor to electronically distribute its e-newsletters. In order to send the e-newsletters, the SPLC must share the e-mail address of subscribers with the vendor. Vendors that provide such services are obligated only to use this information for the purposes for which the SPLC directs them to use it; namely, providing services directly for the SPLC.Business partners with whom the SPLC may share personal information during the usual course of business must abide by confidentiality agreements, which forbid the disclosure of any personal information to additional parties.
